With more than a month of long hot days still ahead of us and organized public events on a hiatus, the need for safe summer activities has never been more severe than it is now. With this in mind, we created a short list of fun activities for you and your quarantine team to do that will help you kill a little time, have a little fun, and relieve a little stress this July in Murfreesboro, TN.

Explore the World (Virtually)

Google Arts and Culture is working in tandem to make virtual tours and online exhibits of the world’s most prestigious museums available to the public at no cost. Take a seat at your computer and spend the day on a virtual globetrotting adventure across over 2,000 museums, 100,000 works of art, and 10,000 famous sites. Take advantage of this rare opportunity to closely inspect some of humankind’s most famous works at your own pace from the comfort and safety of your home.

Many of us like to think we have a celebrity lookalike or two, Art Selfie is an app from Google Arts and Culture that helps you find your famous work of art lookalike. Simply download the app, take a selfie, and share the results with your friends.

Take A Meeting With Mother Nature

Stones River National Battlefield is a 570-acre park along the Stones River in Rutherford County, Tennessee. This historic battlefield allows you the opportunity to take a walk through the history that played out in your backyard well over a century ago. Whether you are hoping to surprise your young ones with an impromptu history lesson or just looking to take a quiet walk away from the sounds and stresses of the city, Stones River National Battlefield is an excellent spot to spend a day out in the sun.

On Saturday, July 11, from 7:30 PM – 8:45 PM a park ranger will be leading a group on a lantern tour of the grounds. If you would like to attend this free even, please RSVP at least a week ahead of time by visiting this page. Remember, however, this event may be subject to change or cancellation due to COVID-19.

Eat Local

Murfreesboro’s food scene may not be known throughout the country, but our local chefs whip up undeniably delicious food daily to those lucky enough to live nearby. Whether you’re snagging an eclectic American meal from Alley on Main, diving into some farm fresh French cuisine from Five Senses, or anything in between, there’s no shortage of local spots looking for some support from their community during this time. If you don’t see any online ordering options on your desired restaurant’s website, don’t stress, third-party delivery services like Grubhub can handle that for you more often than not.

Keep the Creativity Flowing

Custom paint jobs cost a lot more than printer paper and colored pencils. That’s why Volkswagen has released a mini coloring book featuring six of the manufacturers most popular new and classic models. Print out a few of your favorites and customize your own Volkswagen. Turn it into a competition and see who in your family has the best design chops. From a tye dye VW Bus to a green-striped Golf GTI, the only rule for this activity is bringing your creative A-game.

Stay Safe

As we all continue to adapt to overcome the challenges presented by COVID-19, it is essential that we diligently follow the government protocols laid out by the CDC and the local precautions from the Rutherford County government. While abiding by social distancing protocols is a major key to curbing the spread of this virus, it is also important to find time to care for yourself. Luckily for you, there are a number of safe summer activities in and around Murfreesboro, TN that can help keep your stress low and your spirits high.
